Consultation for Certification in Clinical Hypnosis
I am credentialed by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) as an Approved Consultant in Clinical Hypnosis. As an Approved Consultant, I have obtained advanced training in clinical hypnosis and extensive experience in utilizing hypnosis within my professional practice. Approved Consultants are qualified to provide individual training and consultation for those seeking Certification in Clinical Hypnosis through ASCH and the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH).
Choosing Me as your Approved Consultant
I have been utilizing clinical hypnosis in my practice for the past 18 years and teaching Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced clinical hypnosis workshops for ASCH and SCEH since 2013. As a published author of books and peer-reviewed articles on clinical hypnosis, I bring a wealth of knowledge and pragmatic experiences to my consultation sessions.
"When it came time to start gathering consultation hours towards ASCH certification, it was a no-brainer who I was going to contact. Dr. Reid has a rare combination of an approachable personality, a wealth of knowledge, and an infectious sense of humor. I’m lucky to have found such a great consultant who helps keep my work enjoyable."
– Bailey C. Bryant, Psy.D. Owner of Hello Mental Health
How do I provide Individual Consultation with people pursuing Certification in Clinical Hypnosis?
I first provide individual interested in pursuing certification in Clinical Hypnosis with a pro-bono consultation meeting to clarify a number of matters. For instance, it is important to realize that consultation is not supervision. Supervision usually involves a more directive and supervisory component like that which is typically associated with internships. Supervision also frequently involves someone working under a mentor’s license where there is greater accountability and responsibility on the part of the supervisor. Consultation is collaborative and peer-oriented.
During the initial pro-bono meeting, we would review your professional goals with regard to your continued development of hypnosis skills and applications. After establishing each other’s responsibilities for consultation, a plan begins to develop. Consultation meetings are very collaborative and can involve review of your cases, review of video and/or audio material from your sessions (with appropriate informed consent), review of some of my video demonstrations, discussion of any reading material, or anything hypnosis related that supports your consultation objectives.
"Anyone who is truly serious about hypnosis should take the time to work with David—it will be the greatest gift you can give to yourself and your clients."
– Joyce Chandler, Psy.D. Clinical Psychologist
Why consult with me?
This, of course, is a loaded question. I could list all of my credentials, clinical experience using hypnosis, awards, and published books, articles, and book chapters to support my case for being your consultant. But all of that is already listed and highlighted all over my website and that is not the reason that you should consult with me.
Rather, the best answer I can provide is this: Consult with me if you believe you have a confident sense that there is a goodness of fit for us to collaborate. I have many dear friends and colleagues who are also ASCH Approved Consultants that I highly respect and admire and know are exceptional clinical hypnosis mentors and consultants.
It is also important to realize that you are not “locked in” with one consultant for 20 hours. You can participate in individual and group consultant with as many ASCH Approved Consultants as you like. As long as you have 20 hours of documented consultation with an Approved Consultant you will meet this specific criterion for Certification. For instance , there have been times when someone consulted with me for 10-hours and wanted to consult with someone else who specializes in using hypnosis with children or trauma. In those situations, since I am not a child or trauma specialist, I encouraged and facilitated their transition to another consultant.
And another thing...
It is important to consider fees that consultants charge for their services. In my informal and unscientific review of consultation fees of some of my colleagues I have noted a very broad range in fees for service. The range I have discerned from my limited inquiry of consultation fees ranges from a low of $125/hour to a high of $350/hour. One of my colleague’s fees is dependent on the consultee’s private fee charged to clients.
My fees, at present, are $150/hour for individual consultation and $50/hour for group consultation. Groups must include at least three members and are usually open-ended unless a pre-ordained group requests otherwise.
Who is Eligible for Consultation?
Licensed clinicians who meet membership criteria established by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis are welcome to seek consultation and attend workshops I provide. Workshops, seminars, and webinars that I provide are not available for laypersons who aspire to use hypnosis.
